The Jegro place value cards set comprises of thirty nine plastic cards coded by colour, with each colour representing a particular value. The smallest numbers, zero to nine, are referred to as ‘units’, and are printed in red. The numbers ten to ninety by tens are printed in blue, the numbers hundred to nine hundred by hundreds in green, and thousand to nine thousand by thousands in green. The number ten thousand is printed in black. Working with this material allows the child to recognise the value of numbers and learn how numbers are built up. The value of the number is determined by the place of the number within the decimal system and demonstrates written symbols for each its categories. representing the different categories of numbers in the ‘base ten’ or decimal system.

Prior to working with this material, children should master recognition of the number from one to nine, as well as being familiar with the concept of zero.

This material is similar to the Nienhuis Montessori number cards 1-9000 and is suitable for primary school children aged 6-12 years.
