The delightful Grapat wooden free play box (45 x 65 x 7cm) is entirely made by hand and hand-painted with beautiful images which evoke the four natural elements earth, water, air and fire. These elements are part of our species and make us connect with nature.
Versatile and open-ended, the free play box can be used by the child to contain a great variety of games. It can also serve as a dedicated framework for action that controls and sets limits to the elements and spaces of the children’s game.
This clever play box gives ownership and security to the child as it allows them to return back to an activity that might otherwise be cleared away, which has a profound effect on the way they play. It encourages greater focus and can also be used for sensory play when filled with tactile materials like rice, dried beans, flowers, stones, or sand to practise letter formation.
The free play box is entirely crafted by hand from sustainable wood, smooth and pleasant to touch and finished with natural bees wax.
The Grapat free play box is suitable for children aged 36 months and up.

About Grapat
Inspired by the Waldorf pedagogy, the Spanish brand Grapat is well-known for their beautiful wooden toys which are open-ended and favour free and autonomous play. The Grapat philosophy is based on providing open-ended toys that encourage, invite and stimulate creation allowing children to invent their own games and imaginary worlds.
All the wooden Grapat toys are hand-crafted in various workshops in Catalunya, Spain, following traditional processes, with wood derived from sustainable forests and painted by hand with water based dyes. The toys are safe for use by small children as they are non-toxic and comply with the European safety regulations of the directive EN / 71-3: 2014 + A1: 2014 / 2013 regarding toy safety. A large part of the Grapat toys collection carries the prestigious Spielgut® seal.

All Grapat toys are crafted by hand in workshops located in Catalunya, Spain in compliance with the requirements of the SA800 standard.
The Grapat philosophy is natural simplicity combined with a strong accent on social and environmental responsibility, which is reflected in the way the Grapat toys are crafted:
- All wood used for crafting the toys derives from sustainable forests.
- All dyes used are based on water and non-toxic and comply with the European safety regulations of the Toy EN / 71-3: 2014 + A1: 2014 / 2013.
- All of Grapat toys comply with the EN71-1/2/3 safety regulations and have a declaration of conformity.
- Several Grapat toys have been awarded with the Spielgut® seal in 2019.
- Working with dyes and not with acrylic paints allows having contact with the wood and it does not conceal its natural characteristics. The dye does not chip from the wood when it falls to the ground or when time passes because it penetrates deep inside the piece.
- All wood finishes used are either waxes and oils of vegetable origin.
- Each wooden Grapat toy is unique as its crafted and painted by hand.
- The fabric for the storage bags that are included with some of the products are sourced from big companies whom discard material when they find a small defect. Each bag is produced by hand which allows removing those defects and giving the fabric a second life. Hence, the fabrics vary and may not match with those pictured with the products.
- Grapat collaborates with foundations that take care of people with psychic difficulties. Also, family conciliation is made possible by adapting the schedule of each employee to adapt to their personal needs.
Care instructions:
To ensure longevity of each Grapat toy, storage in a dry place is strongly recommended as humidity may cause mould to form on the wood.
The toys can be cleaned by wiping with a damp cloth and have to be dried immediately. Do not submerge in water or use disinfectant.
