With 11 pieces, the planet plaques are all the same size, while the Sun and Moon plaques are slightly bigger. They have magnets on the back and come in an fabric drawstring bag. These beautiful wooden plaques feature stunning coloured images of the Sun, our Moon, and all the planets in our solar system, including the dwarf planet or planetoid Pluto.

The set contains 11 wooden plaques. The 9 planets measure approx. 9 x 9cm; the sun and moon measure approx 10.5 x 10.5cm. They are entirely handmade in Australia, from sustainably sourced plywood.

Learning and play ideas

Individual

Place the plaques on a table along with coloured balls or large marbles to represent the planets. Let the child recreate the scene. Use a magnetic surface and let children arrange the planets in order of distance from the Sun.

Group Setting

Get a child to hold a plaque behind their back, all other children can guess what planet it is by asking questions for the child to answer.

Lay the plaques out on a table for an inspiring Space-themed play surface.

Outdoors

See if children can find objects in nature to represent each planet ie, colour, texture etc.

Every piece of wood used is slightly different in colour, texture and grain, so there are naturally occurring imperfections seen in the timber (e.g knots, colour changes, etc) which cannot be removed and make the products more sustainable. These pieces of timber are also cut on an engraver and will have slight burnt marks on the edges on some sides, adding to their unique handmade character.
