The Educo geometrical shapes is tactile material comprising of wooden geometrical shapes introducing the child to solid geometry.
This set of 10 solid wooden shapes provide an understanding of 3D shapes by making them tangible objects – they challenge and shape a child’s stereognostic sense, which is the ability to perceive and understand both the form and nature of objects through touch. This leads to an awareness of how shapes form the basis for everyday objects, laying the foundation for future work in geometry.
To avoid the child confusing shape with colour, the geometrical shapes have not been coloured for isolation purposes.
This set also includes ten shape contour cards, each corresponding with a geometrical shape; the child places a shape onto the corresponding card allowing to understand its form.
To extend the exercise, this tactile language material can also be used in combination with the tactile box or the blindfolds (sold separately).
Tactile material is suitable for children aged 3-6 years.
