Sandpaper capitals: international cursive – Nienhuis Montessori

A set of Nienhuis Montessori sandpaper capitals printed in international cursive script from the language material range. Iconic to the Montessori classroom, exercising with the sandpaper letters is one of a child’s first steps towards literacy. They guide the hand for writing as the child traces the letter shapes in the style and direction that they are written, which should be combined with hearing and pronouncing the sound and seeing the symbol.

Each sandpaper letter of the international cursive print is in upper case with the consonants on boards painted pink, and the vowels on boards painted blue. Each board has a space on the left and right for the child to hold it with one hand while tracing the letter with the other.

In the Montessori way of learning letters have both sounds and names. A presentation of the letters progresses the child through all of the sounds of the letters, followed by presenting the name.

A wooden box to store the sandpaper letters in is also sold separately.

This Montessori language material is suitable for children aged 4 years and up.
