Hollow number shapes: international version – Nienhuis Montessori

The Nienhuis Montessori hollow number shapes in international version is mathematics material and introduces the child to the symbols of 0-9 and their corresponding number names.

The hollow number shapes are an original idea of Maria Montessori, as described in ‘The discovery of the child’, and provides an additional exercise to prepare the child for writing numbers.

This set contains ten smooth wooden boards painted green with hollowed out numerals and a wooden pen.

Learning to write includes two different kinds of movement: first children learn to reproduce the form, and, secondly, they learn to handle the instrument of writing. The hollow number shapes are a perfect preparation to get the movements of writing carried out in a very exact manner and will be a great help for children to develop their writing skills.

The number shapes can be traced with the included wooden pen or with the index finger. A wooden box to store the hollow number shapes in is also sold separately in our webshop.

This Montessori material is suitable for children aged 3-6 years.
