Spin a scarf of sunshine by Dawn Casey is a beautifully illustrated picture book celebrating sustainability and crafting. The book has a simple, lyrical story written in an engaging, easy-to-understand way. It is about a little girl encouraging young readers to engage with the wool cycle and understand the basics of traditional crafts of natural spinning, dyeing, knitting and gardening.
Nari cares for a little lamb on her farm and, as the seasons change, she shears her sheep’s fleece and spins and dyes the wool with the help of her parents. She knits the wool fleece into a cosy yellow scarf. But, as Nari grows older, her beloved scarf becomes tattered and its time to recycle the wool into compost.
Spin a scarf of sunshine is a lively and charming book which helps children understand where clothes come from, and is a joyful celebration of natural living, recycling and sustainable living.
