German brand Grimm’s is a family owned and sustainably managed company based at the foot of the Swabian Alb. Grimm’s have been making high-quality and durable wooden toys since 1978.
Children and adults alike are attracted by these iconic toys with their brilliant colours and beautiful uncoated wood surfaces. The simple and minimalist shapes of these toys inspire play and leave room for the development of a child’s creativity. Their designs are guided by the principles of Waldorf education and other educational approaches, such as Montessori.
Grimm’s toys are made from alder, lime, beech and maple woods exclusively from sustainably managed forests in Europe. They are an FSC certified company and are actively engaged in reforestation projects. Grimm’s embrace the natural, unique qualities of wood. With a few exceptions, everything is sanded and sawn by hand, giving a different expression than pure “machinery-work” and ensuring the uniqueness of each piece.
The bright colour glazes and plant oils preserve the living surface of the wood in structure and feel. The velvety wooden surface contributes to a greater play value, especially for building material, because the individual pieces do not slip off so easily. All rainbow friends and decorative figures are hand-painted and decorated in loving detail. In assembly and packaging, Grimm’s work in part with workshops for adults with special needs in Germany.
All products are tested regularly and comply with the European Toy Safety Standard (EN 71) and US standards. Grimm’s use glazing colours and vegetable oil that are water-based, non-toxic and saliva-fast. All colours and oils are certified according to the European toy safety standard (EN 71).
