The large colour circle Goethe by Grimm’s, based on the theory of colours book by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, reflect the poet’s view on the nature of colours and how these are perceived by humans. Meant as a table game for older children and adults, the large Goethe colour circle begins with red, yellow and blue as pure, or the primary colours. After looking intently at one of these pure colours, the eye will perceive complementary colour, which are opposite to the primary colours in Goethe’s colour circle.
Due to the eight fractional elements in the colour circle puzzle, there are two red and two green shades which can be seen together. With this creative puzzle the child is able to learn the relationship between colours, both primary and secondary. The coloured pieces can be mixed and then laid in a series of primary and complementary colour opposite in a circle.
This wonderful set includes 24 wooden puzzle blocks and a tray for storage and can be used to nurture a feeling for colours and forms while encouraging spatial perception and logical thinking. Each block has an approximate thickness of 2cm and the tray has a diameter of 28cm. The Grimm’s colour circle Goethe blocks are made from birch wood and are painted in beautiful bright tones with non-toxic water based colour stain making it safe for use by (small) children.
The Grimm’s large colour circle Goethe is suited for children aged 5 years and up.

About Grimm’s
Ideal for playing with at home, nursery, Waldorf or Steiner school, the beautiful natural wooden Grimm’s toys are crafted according to the Waldorf philosophy which is well-known to encourage children to discover creative play independently, without limitations at an unhurried pace. The wooden Grimm’s toys are coloured by hand with non-toxic water-based paints and are not finished with lacquer to ensure the original characteristics of the wood and the grain shows through. The surface of the FSC certified European wood pieces are left slightly rough making them fully stackable and less slippery.
Grimm’s handmade wooden toys are produced at the Grimm’s facilities in Germany as well as at several workshops across Europe from various types of wood such as alder, lime, beech and maple. All wood used to craft the Grimm’s toys are sourced from sustainably managed European forests.
Please note Grimm’s toys are always one of a kind, carrying unique marks made by nature. Wood grain has changing structures and colours which serve as proof of its natural origins. The unique variations, markings, knots, patterns, black stripes or dark spots that may be visible in the wood of a Grimm’s toy are proof of quality, not defects.
