Small bead frame – Nienhuis Montessori

The Nienhuis Montessori small bead frame is mathematical material which forms the bridge to abstraction for the decimal system exercises of addition and subtraction. The wooden frame with supports is 24cm wide and has four wires across, each strung with 10 beads. The rows of colour coded beads represent:

– units by the top row of green beads
– tens by the second row of blue beads
– hundreds by the third row of red beads
– thousands by the lower row of green beads.

When working with the small bead frame, counting can be recorded on the small bead frame paper.

This Montessori material is suitable for children aged 7 years and up.
