Froebel Gabe / Gift 1 – SINA Spielzeug

Gabe 1 from the original SINA Spielzeug range of playing gifts based on the original blueprints as designed by Friedrich Froebel consists of 6 embroidered knit yarn balls with a diameter of approximately 4cm and looped strings. The first three fabric balls are in the primary colours red, yellow and blue and the other three are in the secondary colours green, orange and violet. Together, the six balls represent the colours of the rainbow.

The crochet balls are soft and give way when held. They are lightweight which makes it easy for a small child to reach for it and hold it well with one hand. The looped strings allow for further play and exploration with the balls.

According to the German pedagogue Friedrich Froebel (Fröbel) and founder of the kindergarten, a child’s first or favourite toy is a ball. To him the ball symbolised unity because it is a complete, whole and a pure form.

Play with Gabe 1 introduces the young child to the physical world and stimulates interaction and movement by holding, rolling, tossing, swinging or watching the ball. This educational toy is suited for babies and toddlers and develops motor skills, eye-hand coordination and helps them to distinguish form, colour and movement.
