The book goodbye Summer, hello Autumn by Kenard Pak tells the story of a young girl as she takes a walk through forest and town, greeting all the signs of the coming season. In a series of conversations with every flower, creature and gust of wind, she says good-bye to summer and welcomes autumn.
As trees sway in the cool breeze, blue jays head south, and leaves change their colours, everyone knows autumn is on its way!
Wearing a red scarf, the young girl greets a nippy late summer morning, wanders through woods, by a creek, and across farmland and finally arrives in town, encountering all sorts of flora and fauna along the way. She greets everyone in a friendly tone, saying hello to trees, blue jays, foxes, distant thunder, breezy wind, and the approaching chill in the air. In the end, returning home, it’s “Goodbye, summer…hello autumn!”
Throughout the book, short sentences are positioned over muted watercolour illustrations, blending perfectly to create a feeling of wonder at the change of seasons.
This story book is an ideal gift and is suited for children aged 4 – 7 years. It was published in 2016 in English by Macmillan USA.
