The stars exercise – Nienhuis Montessori

By working with the Nienhuis Montessori stars exercise activity set from the cosmic education material, the child gains an understanding of our universe and becomes familiar with the star-spangled sky. The stars exercise addresses the most significant stars and planets.

This material is based on the Montessori concept of starting by showing the whole, in this case, the universe.

The activity set includes a large dark blue map showing the skies of the northern and southern hemispheres in white, steel flag pins and a sheet of white and yellow labels which are attached to the steel flag pins to create 2 sets of flags. The labels each feature the name of a constellation with on the other side the names in Latin.

For teaching and reference use 2 printed control circles made of thick plastic showing the constellations as well as a user manual with instructions are included.
