Third box of colour tablets – Nienhuis Montessori
The third box of colour tablets introduces children to the final stage in colour discrimination – that of grading, and refines the chromatic sense. Following up on the first box of primary colours and the second box of secondary colours, the third box adds nine colours in seven graded shades of: red, blue, yellow, green, purple, orange, brown, pink and grey. The series of tablets of each colour are laid in appropriate order of shade from light to dark, building visual discrimination skills while exploring how colours exist in different graduations.
The tablets are rectangular pieces with wooden ‘handles’ painted in white on the sides, with this contrast making it easier to distinguish colour.
Introduce colour with the tablets in a concrete fashion and without the association of a physical object to avoid confusion, “isolating one difficulty” at a time.
This material is suitable for children aged 3-6 years.
