The foldable theatre is also known as a Kamishibai; the ancient Japanese storytelling tool found at schools and nursing homes as well as libraries. Kamishibai, for kami, meaning paper and shibai, meaning play or theatre, is a form of storytelling that engages audiences, and elicits their reactions and answers.

The arch of the Educo storytelling theatre acts like a picture frame which draws in the focused attention of children. This Kamishibai storyteller and creative teaching tool can be used with the Educo story sheets (sold separately) to visually support storytelling. It can also serve as a puppet theatre with hand and finger puppets, to hang sketches and pictures in, or as a whiteboard.
